For Students

Youth Writing Camps

The Yellowstone Writing Project Young Authors Camp is a four-day writing workshop for youth entering grades 5-12 that incorporates walking field trips, writing games, and guidance from professional writing instructors in multiple genres and modes of writing. Campers will write and share writing within a supportive community of peers and licensed educators. Camps are led by YWP teacher consultants and take place on-site at the MSU-Bozeman campus. Both commuter and residency rates available.

Silent Film Contest

The YWP works closely with The International Youth Silent Film Festival (IYSFF), a program designed to engage students in the writing process through the use of silent film. Students write, storyboard, and record a three-minute silent film set to one of ten pre-recorded musical scores. These films can be uploaded to win one of our regional prizes or even go on to debut at the International Festival held in Portland, Oregon!
